As a dear aunt of mine was dying, I asked the relatives if I could build her casket. It was an honor to participate in her burial in this way and the results were very meaningful to all. We lined my aunt's hand built casket with a special quilt and laid her to rest. The experience was so rewarding that I helped others build caskets for their loved ones and a business was born.
I encourage family and friends to actively participate in the burial process be it building a casket, caring for the body or digging the grave. This process of care is very healing. It is a very personal way to honor the deceased.
